Internal migration and house prices in Australia

Australia is one of the most mobile countries in world due to internal migration. This study provides first evidence causal impact migration inflow on house price changes across 237 statistical regions from 2014 2019. Employing a spatial correlation approach, paper indicates that amounts 1% initial local area population associated with 0.52–0.71% increase prices three populated states Australia. Migration has significant positive effect metropolitan areas Sydney and Melbourne rather than non-metropolitan regions.
